Nameservers will NOT log messages starting Jan 3rd. The old IP address will continue to work for 6 months after that. Tempest in a tea pot. Besides all this is moot since the simulation which runs our universe ends this friday (the 21st is the end of the world, remember ? :-) So you edit your root.hints file today, and schedule a rndc refresh before June 3rd when convenient.
