So how do we name internal links in a way that is usefull for all operators, and conforms to the A-Z 0-9 and "-" and can be proposed as an RFC?

How about the Sprintlink: sl-pop-router#-port[-speed].sprintlink.net As an example? It's useful for Sprintlink NOC guys (they can see the router and port from DNS) and it's useful because it shows rough or exact link size information to outsiders. But instead of h0/0, use h0-0; s2-6; etc... Just a suggestion... i.e. icm-petersbathroom-2-s2-1-512.icp.net Avi
