The real problem here is that Telehouse either doesn't want or doesn't have the ability to give you floor tiles that have holes cut to your spec. They basically rummage round and get you a tile with a random-sized hole in it. If you're lucky, you get a big hole in the middle. If you're not, you get one just big enough to fit your hand through (and risk the jaggies on the bottom) at some random spot on the tile. I've thought about keeping a sawzall in cabinets there just for the purpose of "customizing floor tiles" in the wee hours of the night. 8-) C Chris Mauritz Technical Manager, Systems Administration Rare Medium, Inc. chrism@raremedium.com -----Original Message----- From: Geoff Lisk <glisk@digisle.net> To: TTSG <ttsg@ttsg.com>; <alex@nac.net> Cc: <rpa@insnet.net>; <amb@gxn.net>; <randy@psg.com>; <redhead@cloudy.lightning.net>; <nanog@merit.edu> Date: Wednesday, October 07, 1998 11:10 AM Subject: Re: MAE NY?
I've had really good luck with a very large hole underneath the cabinet and a several hundred CFM fan at the top. Telehouse has good underfloor pressure so the larger the hole the better for the cabinet. I haven't had good luck putting vented tiles behind - most of our equipment vents front to rear inside the cabinets. My routers are very happy with the large holes though:

Although after seeing the rats nest of wires in some of the cabinets I've seen over the years it's no wonder there are hotspots - nowhere for the air to go. ;)

Also make sure that there is a "vented tile" inback of your cabinets. Not every one I see there does. Just put in a work order to the CAC and they'll put them behind your cabinet. This should help with the air flow around the cabinet so the air pumped out has somewhere to go (Or help blow into the back vents)
