Absolutely, multicast inside of a provider network is critical for feeding local caches. This is a common approach in IPTV networks supporting VOD via multiple headends.
Content can still be multicasted to the edge caching servers, for near-real-time updates, that you then may visit/view on-demand with your favorite unicast client
