You could have built a shared registration system that could have encompassed all the non-ICANN TLDs, and helped create something that would have really given serious challenge to ICANN.

With duplication it just adds weight to the ICANN "I told you so" arguments for not letting people decide this stuff for themselves "they'll only mess it up" and makes alternate root acceptance less likely brandon
