Can someone point me to the source for a whois server... I don't know why, but I haven't been able to find any sources....

You may want to look at the RIPE whois server at: ftp://ftp.ripe.net/ripe/dbase/software/ We are also working on new implementation of the server. Early beta releases are available at: ftp://ftp.ripe.net/ripe/dbase/reimp/
