BTW, when I did VLBI for the Navy, we used to move literally tons of tapes around the world per month and achieved sustained bandwidths > 1 Gbps, albeit with FED-EX, not routers. Does this take into account the delay from encapsulating the tapes into a FED-EX packet and assigning the appropriate layer 1 header, then the queueing delays experienced while awaiting an open buffer on the next FED-EX truck?
