But seriously - there's serious operational considerations involved if everybody doesn't have a consistent view of the DNS root - it's called Balkanization.
I think that already happened a few years ago - now were playing with market share. It's won't get any better until we get rid of icann - which is solely responsible for the Balkanization which has happened to date.
