Not that anyone follows the rules, but: RFC 1812, "Requirements for IP Version 4 Routers", Section 5.3.5, specifies: --- A router [...] MUST have an option to disable forwarding network-prefix-directed broadcasts. --- That particular sentence is followed by another sentence which states that directed-broadcast MUST default to on; obviously, the RFC was written before the time of smurf attacks. /cah
