I found this sentence to be quite instructive.

That has some interesting operational issues, one would think, especially in large networks that are dense partial meshes, with associated link failure scenarios.
Indeed. Especially considering the potential introduction of transient fowarding loops when attempting to utilize pre-computed backup "links" in a vanilla DA-based packet-switched network. -danny
