I have noticed this error with some apparently non-bulk and legitimate mail recently.
AOL's postmaster team has gotten a lot more responsive recently, so forwarding a copy of the message that bounced to postmaster@ and / or calling the number at http://postmaster.info.aol.com/ would probably be good steps to take if you haven't already done so.
Hello Will: Part of the problem is that E.MAIL sent to AOL postmaster bounces as well. Calling the postmaster's desk involves being on the phone for a fairly long time. I have been on the phone for the past 20 minutes on this matter with no resolve yet, as I type this. [hold... speaking with postmaster desk personnel] Ah.. I present the following information for the benefit of those who are experiencing a similar situation. If you see "RLY:B1" in your E.mail transaction report (header) as seen immediately below Recipient address: REMOVED@aol.com Reason: Rejection greeting returned by server. Diagnostic code: smtp;554-(RLY:B1) The information presently available ^^^^^^^^ to AOL indicates this s m h e p Remote system: dns;mailin-04.mx.aol.com (TCP|128.171.94.83|46189|64.12.136.153|25) ([RLY:B1] The information presently available to AOL indicates this) this means AOL has placed a 'dynamic block' on 'a' specific IP within your assigned space, or that a block has been placed on your entire assigned IP space. As we dialogued to resolve our issue, it was made known to me that parties like us in Hawai'i -- in this case the University of Indiana, were experiencing similar problems at present. I requested AOL to provide us a 'reasoning' for the placement of this present day 'block', and further requested that they inform us of any future decisions to place blocks on a part or parcel of our class B. This, such that any 'reason' (present or future) that forms the foundation for AOL's decisioning to place blocks - can be properly and expediently reviewed, and resolved to mutual satisfaction. There was not any evidence available to the AOL Postmaster desk with whom I had conversations, which would have given us all -- an understanding to 'why' a present day block exists. All the best, Robert. -------
