Probably for the same reason that people refer to 56K baud modems. It is easier to say, and most people don't care if it is accurate or not.
Indeed.. in the same way we all say bandwidth when the term is incorrect and technically speaking we mean bitrate.. point is we all know what you mean so the language is fine albeit technically inaccurate! Steve
