Same is true of MIPS and PowerPC, though. There are far more MIPS chips in routers than ever saw desktop use in SGI workstations; and while it might take a little while for Cisco's PowerPC driven routers' CPU's to outnumber all the PowerMacs our there, one day it will happen.
MIPS are now used as a core in many microcontrollers as an alternative to ARM. I do development using Microchip's PIC32MX which is based on a 32-bits MIPS M4K core, beautiful piece of silicon and very good performance. I have a small collection of old gear, somewhere I've a couple of the old Sinclair Spectrum Z-80 with 16KB RAM !!, amazing that one used to program those things with 4K and some kids today don't know how to get started if they don't have a couple of GB's in APIs.
