EfficientIP is another common one, similar to Infoblox -- but is very primitive, IMO, for the pricing they charge.

We've been happily using TeemIP for some time now as an IPAM. On 9/16/25 02:02, Andrew Latham via NANOG wrote:

Hi Andrew, There's also a Netbox fork called Nautobot, by Network to Code. They went their own way with it to support their vision of automation compatibility: https://github.com/nautobot/nautobot Another new player in the same space is Infrahub. I haven't tried it yet but there are some interesting new concepts, also mainly targeted at supporting automation: https://github.com/opsmill/infrahub Despite the automation focus, both will serve as plain IPAM/DCIM just fine. Kind regards, Jaap de Vos

I feel like most/all of these make a huge mistake starting as 'i am going to make an IPAM'. Instead of 'I'm going to make a number allocation system' IPv4, IPv6, port, vlan, RT, RD, PWID, customer#, endless list of numbers you want to allocate and 90% of the logic is agnostic to the ultimate rendering of the number. I feel like the right solution would be to start with a general purpose number manager and make all specific numbers plugins, including allowing users to trivially create local plugins for purely local numbers they need to allocate. With a good design plugin to introduce a new number could potentially be just tens of lines of code in the plugin. Now you could with one call return all numbers that were allocated to support This Subscription. The 2nd problem is that many of these go with WEBUX first, while I think something like gRPC should be the first class citizen, as you mostly should be using the number manager from other software. Of course webUX or many webUX should exist, but it wouldn't have to be 1st class. Many of us would be happy to use CLI UX to add pools rarely when needed and handle allocation/deallocation through existing provisioning systems. Saku Good points. An API or tooling always important. I have experienced that for support and operational groups on-boarding to a Web User Interface is just easier. We are rarely the only users of an IPAM or DCIM. All I added all the other suggestions to my list and think that I might make a table showing some features. I used this extensively at my last job, ~15 years ago. It was pretty good for its time. Some design quirks, but nothing outlandish. It's heavy PHP based though, which at the time did make it easy to modify for our needs , but PHP also sucks, so there's that. :) It has been abandoned though, hasn't been updated in more than a decade. Won't run with any even remotely recent version of PHP, so I really wouldn't recommend anyone actually try to use it these days. Tom I am noticing some of the solutions are lost to time. Modern PHP is not as horrible as days of past. I was just updating the wiki and found that Racktables is active-ish and supports IPv6 addressing so that was neat. All Many updates to https://lathama.net/Tech/Basics/DCIM and as time allows I will add some more columns to the table. One question if anyone has used Sunbird DCIM can you comment if it has an IPAM? I think my next step will be to identify IPAM vs DCIM vs others... On Tue, Sep 16, 2025 at 9:23 AM Tom Beecher <beecher@beecher.cc> wrote:

Hi Andrew,
Many updates to https://lathama.net/Tech/Basics/DCIM and as time allows I will add some more columns to the table. One question if anyone has used Sunbird DCIM can you comment if it has an IPAM?
I think my next step will be to identify IPAM vs DCIM vs others...
This is a good idea. BMS/BAS/DCIM are integrating with or becoming modules of one another and IPAM may or may not be a feature included. If you do go down the DCIM rabbit hole you may consider indicating if opensource or not. There are a lot of big players that require a matching budget in this segment Brian P.S. never tried Sunbird sorry

Brian, yes I have noted a license column in the table and am finding DCIM products that do not have an IPAM which is fun. On Tue, Sep 16, 2025 at 10:08 AM Brian Turnbow via NANOG <nanog@lists.nanog.org> wrote:
