Oh holy shit! Dave seemed like a really good guy. He helped me one afternoon configuring my home router's qos just for fun. Mike

Dave was an amazing guy who seemed to single-handedly fight the battle against Internet buffer bloat. He was always quick to help anyone, and his packet processing skits are legendary. I’ve seen him in vlogs as recently as a month ago, streaming from the boat he lived on, playing his guitar and singing songs of packet loss and latency. -mel beckman

I was privileged to have met Dave at BattleMeshV6, back in 2013. The room was abuzz when Dave was holding court. He had such an easy way about him, and his charisma and confidence were irresistible. There were a lot of talented folks packed in that room, but we all knew having Dave there was special. I'm sorry to hear he's gone. --jds On Tuesday, April 1st, 2025 at 15:23, Michael Thomas via NANOG <nanog@lists.nanog.org> wrote:

I am not sure which event it was - possibly a fringe thing at Mobile World Congress - where I met Dave but he was very gracious about my being OMG IT'S THE BUFFERBLOAT GUY!!! and pushing him on various oblivious telco people. RIP to an unheralded hero Alex On Wed, 2 Apr 2025, 07:50 Jonathan Storm via NANOG, <nanog@lists.nanog.org> wrote:

Oh, wow. I've had many conversations with Dave over the years. I really appreciate all of his work fighting bufferbloat among other things. Condolences to his family and friends. On Tue, Apr 1, 2025, 3:20 PM Mike Noyes via NANOG <nanog@lists.nanog.org> wrote:

Oh, no. I knew him through his bufferbloat contributions, and bumped into him from time to time at the IETF or other events. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing. Never got a chance to speak directly with him, but he was and is and will forever be one of my personal heroes. I can only aspire and hope to sing songs about packet loss and latency on a boat someday. What an incredible life that man lived for all of us. Dave, I use your innovation every day. Thank you for your gifts to me, my family, and the Earth. *Alex Buie*Senior Cloud Operations Engineer 450 Century Pkwy # 100 Allen, TX 75013 <https://maps.google.com/?q=450+Century+Pkwy+STE+100+%7C+Allen,+TX+%7C+75013&entry=gmail&source=g> D: 469-884-0225 | www.cytracom.com

This sucks. He was one of my Internet heroes and even a nobody like me could email him at 3 AM and get a response almost immediately. He made you feel like you were as important as he was. My heart goes out to his family. Marco On 4/1/2025 11:53 AM, Mike Noyes via NANOG wrote:
