Professionals work at the command line. Doing so forces understanding and discipline. It facilitates recording (see script(1)), revision control, scipting, and the use of tools such as make(1). It scales beautifully, it works cross-platform (Unix<->Linux), it alleviates the need for the heavyweight and frequently insecure GUI environments, it facilitates documentation (see script(1) again), it's readily automated (via shell, Perl, Python, whatever), it uses minimal resources, it works in low-bandwidth environments, and it's readily communicated (via email, phone, whatever). ---rsk
