The monopoly probably exists because it's so expensive to be there. There are a ton of factors. If it was so easy, why don't you start up your own ISP (with blackjack and hookers)? Not answering for Aaron but I almost have the same issue. Where I am there is a monopoly. My *ONLY* option is a single ISP with coax. I got a /29 from them as I needed a few static IP's. I would love if they allowed BGP and would love it even more if we went back in time 10 years and had access to fiber.....

Imo v6 is a joke because you still need v4 for a working Internet. I understand there are benefits but this is 2025 and you can't get by without v4.
