CLI is the least bad management method. * It gives the most complete information for troubleshooting * Has the most complete set of configuration options for provisioning * Works over EIA-232, so the device doesn't need network access for me to manage it * CLI fails less often than GUIs. It is easy to restart in case of insanity - log out and log back in * Automation using the CLI (rancid, netmiko) has proven to be the easiest to implement I have no emotions about the CLI other than relative lack of frustration. -Brian On 2025-03-18 14:05, Mark Prosser via NANOG wrote:
Hi NANOG community,
I posed this question in several chat groups, but I'd like to get your opinions.
Do you love the CLI? Do you hate the CLI? Would you -- or do you already -- enjoy a world where you never need to touch the CLI, to manage your network?
This applies to both provisioning and troubleshooting; to which, you may have different answers.
So far, I've seen a variety of replies around the usual "should/must/must not/should not".
Warm regards,
