regardless of the configuration mechanism (cli / socket interface / web): - configuration atomic commit - configuration rollback - config stack which supports direct A->B config changes without going through intermediate configuration stages - configuration idempotency (i.e. issuing the same command repeatedly does the same thing) Without these, config management becomes non-deterministic and unscalable. There's only a tiny handful (3 maybe?) of NOS configuration mechanisms that I'm aware of that support all four. Configuration is hard. Nick
