Re: [Attendee] Anyone at ATL? Are flights making it out today(Thursday)

If you are headed west, The inbound for us516 to phx is over Oklahoma. The gate agent said there are only 47 checked in but the flight it's sold out. The lady at the counter wouldn't put me on standby but the gate agent gave me a seat. It might be worth the trek out here. I was able to get a seat on airtran 635 to LAX Had to go do it at the airport, but the guy at the counter made it happen. Roads were pretty reasonable getting here too. The only catch is they won't let me check my bag until closer to departure time so I get to haunt Starbucks for a few hours reading the Internet peering playbook. If you don't have your flight lined up yet, I suggest getting here and making it happen in person before they run out. Everyone in the check in line was a reschedule. Heading out on Southwest 270 to San Jose through LAX. 20 minute delay but looks good to go. Looks like a full flight. All snow and ice appears to have melted from runway. As others have said, plan accordingly for security line delay. Took me about 45 minutes. I need to get Pre since they were not honoring had of line privileges. Roads at noon today were ok. Out of four lanes on 75 and 85 heading to airport it was common for two closest lanes to center to be full of slush and snow with outer two usually ok with occasional patches of snow and ice typically at an exit. Good luck ya'll! Cheers, Julian Sent from my iPhone. Cell: 408.242.3213

I forgot to mention… I asked one of the TSA guys how many passengers they expected to screen this day and he said about 56,000 people. He also mentioned that many of them had been living at the airport since Tuesday.” My guesstimates were that 20 gates each seem to process about 5 passengers per minute, for about 100 passengers per minute. (I took a very small sample : at one gate for a couple minutes, so adjust your numbers as you see fit.) *60 minutes/hour *10 peak hours per day —————————— would mean that about 60,000 passengers would be able to go through in a full capacity 10 hour period Of course the load normally would follow a curve based on the flight schedules, but here we had a few days of passenger backup so a 100% full use case seems right. Bill PS - Other interesting observation - one guy slid into the last section of the line to offer people $20, $30, and up to swap positions, to go to the end of the line. That value of time calculation would be an interesting one to do - how much is your time worth? If you were early enough, and all you would do otherwise is eat or sit somewhere and read, what is your price?

Matt and I finagled our way out last night via Dallas to Tucson, rental car to Phoenix, getting home around 3:00AM. It was worth it as I enjoy sitting around in shorts and sandals in this wonderful 80+ degree and sunny day... My Point - Phoenix in February is awesome, I should never leave. Heh. Thanks. Enjoy the book. Btw I on my flight calculating the airport thruput on my laptop and it occurred to me, I am doing cloud computing! I'm a controlled environment, if something goes wrong it isn't my fault, and I the end I feel I've paid too much!
